Root Canal Therapy in Trussville, AL

Root canal therapy is a common endodontic procedure used to treat infection or damage inside a tooth, helping to relieve pain and preserve the natural tooth rather than removing it. By addressing the problem at its source, this treatment restores function and protects overall oral health. At Endodontic Associates Trussville, patients receive advanced care designed for comfort and long-term results. To learn more about root canal therapy or schedule an appointment, contact our office in Trussville, AL today.

A root canal is performed under local anesthesia to keep the patient comfortable throughout the procedure, with sedation available if needed. The endodontist begins by creating a small opening in the tooth to access the infected or damaged pulp, which is carefully removed. The canals inside the tooth are then cleaned, shaped, and disinfected to eliminate bacteria and prevent reinfection. Once the canals are sealed with a biocompatible material, the tooth is typically restored with a filling or crown for added strength and protection. Depending on the complexity of the case, a root canal usually takes about 60 – 90 minutes and can often be completed in a single visit.

After root canal treatment, it’s normal to experience some mild discomfort or sensitivity for a few days as the area heals. Over-the-counter pain relievers are typically effective in managing this. Avoid chewing on the treated tooth until it can be restored with a permanent filling or crown. It’s important to maintain good oral hygiene at home, including brushing and flossing regularly, and attending any follow-up appointments as recommended by your endodontist. With proper care, a tooth that has undergone root canal therapy can last a lifetime.

Root canal therapy provides relief from pain and infection while preserving the natural tooth for long-term oral health. Benefits of root canal therapy include:

  • Saves the natural tooth from extraction
  • Relieves pain and sensitivity
  • Eliminates infection and prevents it from spreading
  • Restores normal chewing and biting function
  • Supports long-term dental and overall health
  • Improves comfort and confidence in your smile

Wonderful staff. Only place that took both my insurances. Saving me money. They knew I was hurting and my appt was a few weeks out. They put me on their waiting list and I was in within 2 days. The drill was quiet and the procedure was over faster than I expected. It was my first root canal. I hope to never have to use anyone else.

My wife had a root canal done on one of her front teeth. It took less then an hour and she was very pleased with her experience from Dr. Kim Dean. Not that either of us want to have a root canal done, but from her 1st experience at a different facility, it was like night & day. If needed, we would come back here again.

Everyone was very nice, professional, and answered any question. It’s been a few days since my root canal and I had no issues with pain.

Diseased inner pulp may be caused by deep decay, advanced tooth infection, a large fracture, a cracked tooth, or dental trauma that impacts the nerve, and in many cases, untreated cavities or repeated dental procedures can lead to infected dental pulp and inflammation that worsens over time. Dr. Kimbell uses digital dental X-rays, advanced imaging, and a comprehensive oral evaluation to determine whether root canal therapy, endodontic treatment, or another restorative option is needed to relieve discomfort, remove bacteria, and protect your long-term oral health. Signs you may be a candidate for root canal therapy can include:

  • Sharp, throbbing, or persistent tooth pain
  • Discomfort when biting or chewing
  • Lingering sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures
  • Swollen or tender gums near the affected tooth
  • A pimple-like bump on the gums known as a dental abscess
  • Tooth discoloration following injury
Is a Root Canal as Painful as People Say?

Root canal therapy has a long-standing reputation for being painful, but modern dentistry has changed that experience significantly. With today’s advanced techniques, precise instruments, and effective local anesthesia, most patients report that a root canal feels similar to receiving a routine filling. The purpose of the procedure is actually to relieve the pain caused by infection or inflammation inside the tooth. Our team prioritizes comfort at every step and takes the time to ensure patients are fully numb and relaxed before treatment begins.

Can Dental Sedation Be Used If I Am Anxious About Getting a Root Canal?

Yes, dental sedation is an option for patients who feel anxious, fearful, or uncomfortable about root canal treatment. Our providers understand that dental anxiety can make it difficult to sit through procedures, even when pain control is excellent. Sedation options are reviewed based on your anxiety level, medical history, and treatment needs, allowing our team to create a calm and controlled experience.

Will I Need Someone to Drive Me to and From a Root Canal?

Whether you need transportation depends on the type of anesthesia or sedation used. Patients who receive local anesthesia only are typically able to drive themselves to and from the appointment. If sedation is part of your treatment plan, a responsible adult will be required to drive you home. Our team discusses these details in advance so you can plan confidently.
